Eat Whole Grains!

Alright, this is when I admit that my boyfriend and I love whole grains. With both of us growing up in families that cook and make delicious meals, Stuart and I have inherited a love for cooking, and more importantly, eating yummy and healthy things. When we met I was GF (gluten free) so this is also how we got onto eating other grains/flours. Check out all these organic whole grains... mmmm...look at them all...don't they look great!



We have (starting middle left and going clockwise) spelt, red winter wheat, millet, buckwheat, and brown rice.


You might be wondering what do we do with all of this? Well...We grind it! Stuart gets out his grain grinder...attaches it to his automatic drill and away we go. Fresh ground flour makes our breads, muffins, and any other baked goods taste incredibly fresh.

We go across the border into the USA and stop at the Co-op in Bellingham. We find their selections of bulk grains are fresh and organic.  

Try our favourite waffle recipe:
- 1 cup of buckwheat flour
- 1 cup of brown rice flour
- 1 tbsp of baking powder (or pow pow as my snowboarding boyfriend likes to call it)
- 1/2 tsp of sea salt
- 1 tbsp of cinnamon
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 1 banana (frozen or over ripe)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 cup of almond milk **might need more liquid
- 1/2 cup of blueberries or protein powder if you are feeling a little risky!

Serve with the real deal maple syrup, almond butter, yogurt, or your fruit on top...all of the above together is also delicious...just ask my sister...

We cook this on our waffle cooker...however you could do the same recipe and make it into pancakes.
